Margaritas 5 Ways

25 Apr 2018

Margaritas 5 Ways

We've had our first glimpse of summer for the year and we loved it. What better way to celebrate sunshine than to invite your squad over for a cocktail party?! Margaritas are one of our favourite classic cocktails that have stood the test of time, and always promises to be a crowd-pleaser. But if you want to go beyond the classic, there's plenty that you can do with this delicious drink. So here it is - our top five margarita recipes...

1. Classic Margarita

margarita

What you'll need: tequila, cointreau, limes and sugar syrup.

Chill martini glass, then run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass, then coat rim with salt. Shake up 50ml of tequila with 25ml of cointreau, 25ml of lime juice and 12.5ml of sugar syrup, for about ten seconds. Strain into the martini glass and garnish with a lime wheel.

2. Vanilla Margarita

What you'll need: Tequila, Licor 43, limes and sugar syrup.

This recipe is exactly the same as the classic, except that you're switching out the Cointreau for licor 43 (vanilla liqueur). If you really want to be fancy, instead of rimming the glass with salt, mix a few drops of vanilla essence with some granulated sugar and rim the glass with vanilla sugar instead.

 3. Cucumber and Mint Margarita

What you'll need: tequila, cointreau, limes, sugar syrup, a few mint leaves, cucumber.

Exactly like the classic, except you'll add a few mint leaves and a few slices of cucumber to the shaker. This one is best served over ice and garnished with cucumber and mint.

4. Frozen Margarita

What you'll need: tequila, cointreau, limes, sugar syrup, ice.

The perfect summer drink! Put all ingredients into a blender with a scoop of ice. Blend thoroughly, adding more ice if desired. The finished product should be slushy consistency. Serve in a martini glass and garnish with a lime wheel.

5. Strawberry Frozen Margarita

What you'll need: tequila, cointreau, limes, sugar syrup, ice, a few strawberries.

Exactly the same as above, except with the strawberries added in. Garnish with a strawberry. Just like a grown ups slush puppy! This also works well with mango, raspberries or pineapple.

What are you waiting for - call the girls, book in your gel nails appointment and host your own cocktail party!

Long Island Iced Tea 5 Ways!

16 Mar 2018

Long Island Iced Tea 5 Ways!

The weather outside may be freezing, but that doesn't mean you can't party! You simply need to move the party inside. We've recently shared with you some cocktail recipes to make at home, and we've got even more to share with you just in time for the weekend. Long island iced tea is a favourite of many people, largely due to the high alcohol content -but hey, there are worse ways to warm up! Read on for a classic long island iced tea recipe and four ways you can change it up.

1. Classic Long Island

Ingredients: 12.5ml of each of the following: vodka, gin, white rum, cointreau and tequila. 12.5ml of lemon juice. Coke to taste. Lemon to garnish.

Method: The best part about this recipe is that you don't need any specialist equipment - just some tall glasses to serve. Fill glasses with ice, add all ingredients, adding the lemon juice last, then garnish with a lemon wedge.

2. Long Beach Iced Tea

Just as easy, but many believe it's even more delicious - the long beach iced tea simply calls for the coke to be swapped out with cranberry juice.

3. Spice Island Iced Tea

This recipe keeps some of the same ingredients as the original, however the tequila and white rum are switched out for whiskey and amaretto, and 6ml of all spice dram are added.

4. Beverly Hills Iced Tea

In this boozy, classily named version of an iced tea, the tequila and white rum are left out, as is the coke. The lemon juice is subbed out for lime juice, and the drink is topped with champagne!

5. Raspberry Iced Tea

In this fruitier version of the drink, leave out the cointreau and substitute for raspberry liquor (the most common being chambord). Switch out the coke for lemonade and consider adding 25ml of raspberry puree or syrup.

Five Cocktails You Can Make at Home to Impress Your Friends

Five Cocktails You Can Make at Home

cocktail recipe

Who doesn't love going out for cocktails? But unfortunately, as much as we love a night at The Alchemist or Maven, it can get pretty pricey, leaving less pocket money for massages and facials. You might be surprised to know that your favourite cocktails are easy to whip up at home with just a few bar tools and as little as two ingredients.

Even the best cocktail bartenders will tell you that the best cocktails are the classics that have stood the test of time, and been perfected over many years. In fact, most innovative new cocktails are based on a classic - most are easy to customise, making them incredibly versatile. Here are five cocktail recipes you can make in your own home...

1. Daiquiri

What you'll need: White rum, limes and sugar syrup. Sugar syrup can be bought or easily made at home with just sugar and water.

Chill a martini glass, either in the fridge or by filling with ice. Pour 50ml of white rum into a cocktail shaker, along with 25ml of lime juice and 25ml of sugar syrup. Add ice, shake for ten seconds and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a lime wheel.

This is a great versatile recipe. Use spiced rum instead of white rum for a spiced daiquiri, or try coconut rum for a coconut daiquiri. Alternatively, instead of shaking, combine the ingredients in a blender with ice cubes and a few strawberries or raspberries for frozen daiquiris (why won't summer hurry up?!).

Another versatile cocktail, margaritas can be customised in so many ways. Switch out the cointreau for licor 43 for a vanilla margarita, or shake with cucumber and mint for a super refreshing cucumber and mint margarita. Mix with ice in a blender for a frozen margarita, adding in mango or strawberries if you desire a more fruity drink.

3. Bellini

What you'll need: prosecco and either peach juice, peach puree or peach schnapps.

Pour 25ml of the peach element into a champagne flute. Top with prosecco and you're ready to go!

Again, it is possible to customise the bellini for different flavours. For example, replace the peach puree with passion fruit juice and 12.5ml of cointreau. You can make your own juice by straining the flesh of a passion fruit using a sieve or tea strainer. Or replace the peach puree with chambord for a raspberry bellini - delicious!

4. Cosmopolitan

What you'll need: vodka, cointreau, limes, cranberry juice.

Shake 50ml of vodka, 25ml of cointreau, 75ml of cranberry juice and 25ml of lime juice for ten seconds. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a lime wheel.

Make like the 'Sex and the city' girls and enjoy a classic cosmo, or add your own touch. Switch out regular vodka for a flavoured one - passion fruit vodka works a treat.

5. Mojito

What you'll need: White rum, limes, sugar syrup, mint leaves and soda water.

Muddle three wedges of lime in a tall glass. Add 12.5ml of sugar syrup, 5 mint leaves and 50ml of white rum. Fill the glass to half full with ice (ideally crushed ice) and mix with a bar spoon. Top with more ice and a dash of soda water. Garnish with a cocktail straw, mint leaves and a lime wedge.

If you want to add a twist to your mojito, try adding pureed strawberries, raspberries or blackberries for a fruity touch.

What are you waiting for - call the girls, book in your gel nails appointment and host your own cocktail party! Why not ask everyone to bring a bottle to split the cost?!

The Classic Cocktail That's Having a Moment

29 Jan 2018

The Classic Cocktail That's Having a Moment

Who doesn't love cocktails? They come in all shapes and sizes so there's something for everyone on a quality cocktail menu, but one in particular is peaking in popularity right now. Strangely it's been around since the 1920s but something in the 2018 air has brought about a surge of popularity for the Italian apertif known as the Negroni. The great news is that it's really easy to make for yourself at home, and you only need three ingredients, plus orange to garnish.

Negroni
25ml Campari
25ml sweet vermouth
25ml Gin

Fill old fashioned glass with cubed ice. Add equal parts Campari, sweet vermouth and gin and stir well. Garnish with a slice of orange.

So pop to the liquor store, call your squad, and don't forget to squeeze in a nail appointment before hosting your cocktail party!
