Top tips for a perfect wax
That perfectly smooth just-waxed feel is fantastic.
Our Bliss therapists are experts in the art of waxing - from the simple leg or underarm wax, to facial hair to intimate styles. However, there are a few things that you can do yourself to achieve perfectly waxed skin.
There are several things that you can do prior to your appointment to help with the perfect wax. Firstly, you should stop exfoliating at least two days before your appointment. Exfoliating can make the skin more susceptible to irritation, and increase likelihood of lifting (when layers of your skin pull away and tear).
There are certain products that you should also avoid using in the days leading up to your Bliss appointment. For example, retinol can thin the skin, so it should not be used in the two-five days before your wax.
Antibiotics can also promote skin lifting, so we recommend postponing your appointment until a few days after your antibiotics course is complete.
It is also important to ensure that your hair is the right length for waxing. If the hair is too short, there isn't enough for the wax to grab on to, and you run the risk of more ingrown hairs as well. On the other hand, if the hair is too long then it is difficult to get the hair out.
As a guide, we recommend that the hair should be around one quarter of an inch, or the same length as an eyelash or a grain of rice.
After your service you may experience some redness and irritation, particularly if you have sensitive skin. If this is still the case once you have returned home from your appointment, you can use a cool compress or ice to reduce the inflammation.
Wearing looser fitting clothing for a couple of days after a bikini or leg wax can also help to mitigate any irritation from tight clothes.
There are also non-irritating post-wax products available for all areas of the face and body. They minimise ingrown hairs and bumps, helping to leave your skin silky smooth within 48 hours.
