Bliss guide to skin types

Understanding your skin type is important for helping you to determine which products will help your skin, and which ones may cause you skincare issues.

Here is our guide to different skin types, to help you determine your own.

.

Oily skin

If your skin is shiny with visible pores then you may well have oily skin. Oily skin can be prone to blemishes, so it is best to avoid products that can block your pores. Stay away from heavy moisturisers containing ingredients such as petroleum jelly,  beeswax, and paraffin. Instead, use skincare products containing retinols or salicylic acid. These ingredients can be hydrating, so you will also need a good moisturiser. You should also be using SPF if these ingredients are in your skincare routine.

.

Dry skin

Dry skin produces less oil, which leaves it prone to feeling tighter, scaly patches, and redness. Look for products that not only hydrate the skin but also help to rebuild the skin barrier to reduce moisture loss. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, shea butter, ceramides, and glycerin are your friend. It's best to avoid over-exfoliating anf long, hot showers. Warm water is best, along with gentle soaps and washes.

.

Combination skin

If some areas are oils and others are dry, then you have combination skin. Usually it is the t zone that is oily whilst the cheeks are dry. It is important to keep the skin hydrated. Avoid anything too dehydrating, and anything overly harsh or rich as this can clog the pores.

.

Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin is generally characterised by dryness, itching, burning, and redness. It is important to protect your sensitive skin so avoid harsh soaps and skincare products, and opt for fragrance-free products.
